BASEL, Switzerland - Giordano Righini (59), Head of the Plastic Additives Segment at Ciba, will retire from the Company effective December 31, 2008. Due to the takeover of Ciba by BASF, he will not be replaced.
Until the transaction with BASF is complete, John Frijns will assume Righini’s responsibilities while continuing to lead Industry Platform Plastics. Since joining Ciba in 1995, Frijns has held key management positions in various countries and served as Head of Business Line Plastics until being appointed to his current position.
Brendan Cummins, Chief Executive Officer at Ciba: “Giordano Righini’s 40 years in the chemical industry began in research and development at Chimosa Chimica Organica, which Ciba acquired in 1979. Since then, his career has spanned diverse areas of responsibility, from technical operations, process development and technical service to management of regional and global organizations. Over the last decade, he has brought effective and inspiring leadership to the roles of Regional President of Southern Europe, Head of Business Line Coatings and, since 2005, Head of the Plastic Additives Segment. On behalf of his fellow Executive Committee members as well as the Board of Directors, I’d like to thank Giordano Righini for his exceptional dedication to our business and our people. We wish him all the best for the future.”
