Our research focuses on the mechanisms controlling neuronal survival and axonal elongation in higher vertebrates. We use neurotrophins and their receptors as tools to dissect mechanisms that are relevant both to development and to neurodegeneration. We also use extensively mouse embryonic stem cells as a new cellular system to study neurotrophin signalling, as well as the role of instructive factors during neural development.
