Structure-based functional analysis of proteins and their supramolecular assemblies by an interdisciplinary 'hybrid' experimental approach involving cell, molecular and structural biology, and nanobiology. Major research topics: (1) actin, actin-binding proteins and the actin cytoskeleton; (2) intermediate filament (IF) proteins and the IF cytoskeleton; (3) the nuclear pore complex and nucleocytoplasmic transport; (4) amyloid structure, formation and disruption (5) nanobiology/nanomedicine - moving from the bench to the application
